Picnic in Bunker
The program begins with a greeting from Major Notz and a troop takeover. The tour of the museum starts with a short film of about 15 minutes. The indoor exhibition offers a peek into the tar-scented corset, admire the familiar-looking Mannerheim statue and learn about the construction of the largest building project ever undertaken in Finland, the Salpa Defence Line. Next, gear up for the great outdoors, get into the mood and head into the maze of connecting trenches and the twilight of reinforced concrete bunkers under the guidance of Major Notz.
The bunker adventure makes it easy to indulge your imagination, at least in part, in the atmosphere of wartime. Familiar phrases from The Unknown Soldier come to life, and with a little mental gymnastics you can almost see Rokka and company among the trees. The tour culminates in a meal or coffee in the twilight of a concrete cage, at a table in a covered inn.
Please note:
We recommend suitable equipment for a forest hike. It can be damp and cool in the forest and in the bunkers. The tour includes walking in the countryside for about 1.5 km, some stairs and narrow entrances to the forts. Not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
